Starting on 28 May 2021 we invite you to the Art Collections Museum for the OSCAR HAN (1891–1976) exhibition, celebrating 130 years from the birth of the artist.
The exhibition presents 50 sculptures by this innovator of plastic conceptions and formulas, „accomplished modelator”, „sculptor of the highest standing”, according to his friend, painter Nicolae Tonitza. Oscar Han was part of the generation of artists who made their debut at the beginning of the 19th century and became famous between the two World Wars: sculptors Dimitrie Paciurea, Constantin Brâncuşi, Frederic Storck, Ion Jalea, Cornel Medrea and painters Camil Ressu, Iosif Iser, Theodor Pallady, Gheorghe Petraşcu, Nicolae Tonitza, Gheorghe Dimitrescu, Francisc Şirato, Ştefan Popescu, Nicolae Dărăscu, Jean Al. Steriadi.

Oscar Han is the author of a complex life’s work; the exhibition presents sculptures from the collections of the National Museum of Art of Romania, Krikor H. Zambaccian Museum, Art Museum in Constanţa, the Anca Vlad, Mihai Astratinei și Damian Florea private collections.

The chosen works represent various stages of creation, are made in various materials (gypsum, bronze and Carrara marble) and are placed in chronological order within the themes structuring the exhibition. The explanatory sheets include texts from the volume Oscar Han: the artist and his time by the lamented art critic and hystorian Doina Păuleanu; there are also documentary exhibits kindly offered by the sculptor’s grandson, Mr. Alexandru Mavrocordat. Thus the visitors will have the opportunity to see the sculptor’s birth certificate, the graduation diploma issued by the Art School in Bucharest, the passport and identity card, photos of the artist in his workshop or with his works.
