Starting on 25 Octomber 2019, The National Art Museum of Romania invites you to a confession-like exhibition centered, once more, on Romanian contemporary painter Corneliu Baba. The exhibition includes works from the NAMR collections and the artist’s own collections, as well as personal documents dating from 1965 – 1977.

The curatorial approach relies on the artist’s notes and reflections dating from this period and gathered in the second volume of the Corneliu Baba series.

While reading the notes in the artist’s journal, one finds him more and more withdrawn in the silence of his workshop in the Pangratti street, in front of his easel or his workshop notebook, tormented by doubts and sometimes haunted by the feeling he had not fulfilled what he always wanted to do – painting and only painting.

When I climb on the big case in order to work on the characters in my compositions, I am transformed. I only think of things beyond these petty worries about being liked. My painting must not be liked but stir emotions about big visual and human values.” (Corneliu Baba, Confessions and Journals (1965 – 1977).
