Conservation Lab: Old Master Paintings Restored

Long before an exhibition opens, objects are reviewed, their condition scrutinized and, depending on it, further treatment discussed by curators and restorers to ensure they can be safely displayed.

Conservation Lab: Old Master Paintings Restored opens a series of micro-exhibitions aimed at showcasing the museum’s various conservation labs and their contribution to the research and preservation of the museum’s collections.

As paintings are studied and their original aspect recovered, authorship and dating may change as various stories about original artist practices emerge after centuries of neglect and shifting art historical perspectives.
