Two generations of artists in the same family, three different visual languages – painting, sculpture, photography – four destinies shaped in close proximity, in the effervescence of the search for one’s unique voice and path in art: this is the Maitec story, superimposed and influencing the path of Romanian art in the last fifty years.

The National Museum of Art of Romania invites you during 31 October 2019 – 29 March 2020 to the Wood Gold Light exhibition – the most comprehensive exhibition dedicated in the last ten years to Ovidiu and Sultana Maitec, now in an unprecedented visual dialogue with Stéphane and Dana Maitec.

Ovidiu and Sultana Maitec are today two undeniable milestones in the evolution of Romanian painting and sculpture after 1950. The exhibition entitled Wood Gold Light proposes a contemporary perspective on their creation, presented in a dialogue with a new artistic language: photography. Stéphane Maitec, son of the two artists, works since 2002 alongside Dana Maitec: they are a duo who built an impressive international career in artistic photography. But, with Reflections, their new series of works, they propose a spectacular visual experiment bringing together, in a fascinating game of reflections, painting, sculpture and photography; the result is a new and fluid artistic genre, showing a new aproach to light.

The exhibition brings forward the most comprehensive selection of works signed by Ovidiu and Sultana Maitec since their most recent exhibition at The National Museum of Art of Romania in 2001. Over 70 sculptures by Ovidiu Maitec and over 50 paintings by Sultana Maitec mirror each other and form the nucleus of the exhibition, while Stéphane and Dana Maitec present, for the first time in România, over 50 de works and interactive instalations from the Reflections series.
